BOOM! Lightning shook the house. Fire rose from all four sides and the roof. The house started shaking, shaking like crazy, as if an earthquake had suddenly appeared out of nowhere. A scream erupted from the top floor. More screams arouse and then, suddenly, they died down. “Jay!” A little boy cried. “Jay!” “Kebur! Where are you?” A voice responded. “Where are Mom and Dad?” “Jay, I don’t know, I don’t know!” The little boy wailed. He grabbed his stuffed rabbit and blanket and started running wildly. Smoke billowed from the ceiling. “There you are, Kebur! Come on, let’s go!” Jay grabbed Kebur’s hand and together they raced out the back door. “Mommy! Daddy! No!” Kebur started crying. The house collapsed and the flames started spreading. It crawled onto the grass and the flame grew, with no sign of stopping. “Kebur, run, run now! We’ve got to get away from those flames! Let’s go!” Jay cried, and they both started running, running as fast as the wind, as fast as they could go. Suddenly Kebur fell down. “I’m too tired, Jay. I wanna go home, I wanna go home!” Kebur screamed. “Kebur, we don’t have a home, remember? Come on, let’s go!” Jay grabbed his brother’s arm and pulled him up. “But where will we go?” Kebur said as they began to run again, panting. Blood started to trickle down from a cut on his leg. “Skye’s house! They can let us live there!” Jay exclaimed. Kebur nodded excitedly. “Yes! Skye’s house!” He echoed. The excited six-year-old bounced up and down, and then suddenly remembering the fire was still behind him, started running faster than before. He ran with renewed energy, smiling as he whizzed past trees. “That’s right, Kebur! To Skye’s house we go!” Jay cheered. And that’s how the story began…
